Zidane's interview

So, Zidane gave an interview last night to a French television channel. It looks like the alledged insults that were being reported the past couple of days may be true.

I don't speak French. So...

From BBC.

Transcript of the interview from BBC.

From The Guardian.

From The Sun.

From The Independent.

From ESPNsoccernet.

From The Irish Times.

Anyway, it seems Zidane is not going to tell what exactly was being said on the pitch. But I have to say, from all the news, I really can't blame Zidane for doing what he did.

I've been wondering what on earth the game is becoming. It's not about football anymore. It's about how good you can fool the referee. Dirty tactics have been practicing a lot, especially European countries.

Let me remind you that England is not a European country.

Ha!!!

Anyway, it's sad to see Zidane retiring this way. But like he said in his interview...

It's always the reaction that people talk about. Of course the reaction has to be punished. But if there had been no provocation, there would have been no reaction. If I reacted, it was because something occurred. Do you think that in a World Cup final, 10 minutes away from the end of my career, I would do a thing like that because it pleased me? Never. My action was unforgiveable, but I'm saying to you that the person who committed the provocation should also be punished.

I'm not justifying violence. God knows I've witnessed it all my life. All I'm saying is that I understand where he is coming from.
