My trip to Malaysia

Well, well, well...

It's been a while since I last updated this blog.

I've just been busy with work and pub as usual.

The Irish XChange will be closed in August, and hopefully they will be re-opened in September with better looks, more choices of beer, etc. Not that I don't like the way it is.

But anyway...

I had an opportunity to go down to Kuala Lumpur for a few days to help boss with work. He went to attend an exhibition there, and didn't have anyone to staff the booth for two days. So, I bugged him until he gave in and arranged everything to get me down there.

I had to get up at 4am to catch the bleedin' plane.

Going down to KL

The flight was about 15 minutes delayed due to technical problems, but it was a good flight (just a guess, because I slept all the way).

I arrived at KLIA - LCCT, and took a Skybus into town, then took a taxi from KL Sentral to the Legend Hotel (10 RM) where I was staying. I showed up at the exhibition around 2pm, and boss took me for lunch.

Jalan Putra

The exhibition was quite busy. There were a couple people who stopped by at our booth because they wanted to say "Sawadee" to me, or to wai me. Anyway, I think we were doing quite okay at the exhibition.

I worked for two days (plus one morning for handing over to the next shift). Then, I waltzed out of the exhibition to do some touristy stuff.

Getting around KL was very easy, convenient and quite cheap. NOT taxis, mind you. The taxi drivers seem to be able to sniff out tourists. And they would bloody rip you off there.

They have monorails, a few lines of trains, etc. My favourite was KL Monorail. That little thingy was so adorable.

On my second night in KL, I decided to go see Petronas Twin Towers since I've been told they were more beautiful at night. They really were. The bloody things were massive. And shiny. And glowing. I just sat there and watched them.

And I went back to hotel for a good night's sleep.

Having done my research extensively before the trip, the next day, I went to Central Market (LRT station: Pasar Seni) to buy something for people back home. It's supposed to be cheaper than Chinatown.

I got to visit many places on my Day 1 sightseeing tour. I walked so much it's not funny. My legs were in agony. But life went on.

Masjid Jamek

Sultan Abdul Samad Building

Merdeka Square

KL Railway Station

I didn't go out get pissed every night because my time there was so limited I spent mostly on the sightseeing thing. I mean, you can still come back home and get pissed in your local to make up for lost time, you know.

That, and beer was rather expensive there. 11.50 RM++ for half pint of Heineken, for God's sake!!

This pint was 26.xx RM

On my Day 2 sightseeing tour and my last day, I woke up at 7:15am to go get in line for Skybridge Visit ticket at the Petronas Twin Towers. The ticket counter opened at 8:30am, but since they have limited tickets each day, people start lining up in front of the closed counter from 7am or before that.

I got a ticket for 10:15am visit. About 10 minutes on the bridge.

I am actually afraid of height, and narrow places. The Skybridge is on 41st and 42nd floor. So, needless to say, I was terrified when I was up there. But it's gotta be done. I didn't get up at 7:15am to sit at the lobby of the buildings.

After the Skybridge visit, I checked out at the hotel, and went to KL Tower - my last destination.

Ticket to go up to observation deck is 20 RM. When you go up there, you'll get an MP4 player to explain things or buildings you're looking at from each point. Once I went round 360 degree, I thought I would walk another round. And then there was a zillion kids running in and around the deck.

Alrighto, so I was done. My legs were in serious agony anyway. I got something to eat, then got my things and went to the airport. My flight was about half hour delayed. Not too bad really.

And so I'm home.
